On the 25th of March student across the country
will speak out, march, sign and sleep out all to demand a better future!
NUS will be calling on the government to make student income support fair and scrap VSU.
FAIR INCOME SUPPORT!
1 in 8 students miss a meal regularly because of lack of money and 1 in 2 students
report that their studies are adversely affected by financial stress. The time
for the government to act on improving student income support is now!
At the NDA NUS be calling for the government to lower the age of independence,
make means testing fair and increase payments. This would mean more money and
more support for more students.
SCRAP VSU!
Since the introduction of voluntary student unionism (VSU) in 2005, student
organizations have had their budgets slashed. This means less services, support
and representation for students on campus. The government promised students
they would address this and proposed a new student services fee. NUS will be
campaigning to ensure that this fee is directed to student organizations, not
university administrations- because students know what is best for students!
WHY ATTEND THE NDA??
Are you sick of paying through the nose for your education? Are you sick of
having to skip lectures to work to make ends meet? Are you sick of not been
able to afford your textbooks? Are you concerned about your ability to manage
and pay-off a $30 000 HECS debt after completing your studies? Do you want to
see a society that values universities rather than treating them like degree
factories?
The only people that can change these circumstances are students! So come to
the NDA in your state, get active and change higher education in Australia!
